Eventide
As the tides from the ocean constantly change, it's during the transition of a high tide moving to a low tide that the tide is at its lowest level for the day many times exposing larger shorelines and creating larger beaches temporarily. When we have a low tide during the golden hour of sunset the time of day is often referred to as Eventide. In naming this piece it seemed perfect for a title capturing the effects of a tide and the beauty of the horizon.
]]>Fractured
Taken in Maui, this larger than life wave shatters right in front of your eyes. Fractured, like glass, this piece draws you in with its mixture of crystal clear hues and multitude of bright, vivid blues. You can see the powerful forces that make this wave, as well as the gentle elegance the wave creates as it breaks apart and dances into the open air. Showing us the true forces of nature.
]]>I took this in the beginning of my exploration with abstract photography on a warm afternoon just as the swell was changing again for the evening tide. You can see the different directions that the waves were being pulled in, making for a beautifully scattered reflection of the sunset. I find it enchanting how the soft yellows of the sunset bleed into the deep shadows of the ocean and clouds creating that perfect pink. This piece just emanates peace and warmth, and comforts the mind.

Swami’s Sky- This image was taken during the same indian summer as Encinitas Tree-line, but here I really wanted to focus on the rich colors of the sunset. As californians we are blessed to frequently see the deep reds and pinks brushed through our sunsets, but we rarely see this range of bright yellow to deep purple so early in the evening in the fall. The entire sky was painted in every color. I wanted to focus on the clouds and how they so perfectly reflected the color beneath them, and seemed to break up the smooth sky without hiding any of it’s beauty. |
Bamboo Forest - I took this image on a hike through the bamboo forests on our way to one of the most magnificent waterfalls in Hana. The dense forest of swaying bamboo chutes make for a beautiful image. It was like walking through nature’s musical instrument listening to the wind whistling through the chutes as the clinked together, and the hearing all the wildlife that was hidden away in the forest. The air was sweet and the whole scene was hypnotic to every sense. I only wish I could have captured more than just the visual beauty of this forest. |
September Morning is one of my favorites in the abstract series because of the lively yet serene mood it seems to give off. I took this image early one summer day when the water seemed so clear it seeped right through the horizon and fused into the cloudless sky. My goal with this extreme motion blur was to really capture the array of value and color in the waves; the deep blues in the face of the waves, the bright blues of the reflected sky, and the soft light seafoam above the rich greens in the breaking waves. |

Dolphins always seem like they are enjoying every aspect of life. We should learn from them.

This photo was taken on a crisp fall morning looking south towards Carlsbad. I really love the blue hughes of the ocean and feeling I get when viewing it as it portrays what it might be like to be sitting in line up.
